Publicum EEG lab (we meet at the lobby)

This experiment will assess your level of awareness of low-volume sounds and associated cognitive processes and will help us to understand brain mechanisms of auditory perception. You will be asked to assess how well did you heard a weak sounds. Another task will be on imagining. More details on the procedure will be disclosed during the experiment. Participation is voluntary.

After the experiment is completed, you can receive participation hours (“koehenkilösuoritus”), which is part of subject obligation for basic psychology studies. Alternatively you can receive a 10 EUR gift voucher.

Duration: around 2 h 10 min

This study measures the brain electrical activity, or EEG, while the subjects perform detection tasks by looking at flash patterns on the display and listening to sounds from headphones. The purpose is to compare brain power responses related to conscious hearing. You can participate if you are
-18-35 years old
- right-handed
- have normal (or corrected to normal by glasses or lenses) vision and normal hearing
- do not suffer from migraine, neurological or psychological diseases.

EEG measurement uses an electrode gel that is inserted between the electrodes and the scalp. Be prepared to wash your hair after the test. In our laboratory you will find a towel, shampoo and a hairdryer. The time to clean up is included in the time it takes to participate. EEG measurement will not work if your hair is greasy, has a lacquer, etc., so come for an experiment with clean hair.

Place: Publicum, basement. Arrive at the Publicum's lobby and go to the bottom of the stairs that lead from the lobby to the basement. The researcher will meet you and guide you to the lab.

Tässä tutkimuksessa mitataan aivosähkökäyrää eli EEGtä samaan aikaan kun koehenkilöt suorittavat havaitsemiseen liittyviä tehtäviä katselemalla näyttöpäätteellä välähtäviä kuvioita ja kuuntelemalla kuulokkeista ääniä. Tarkoituksena on verrata tietoiseen kuulemiseen liittyviä aivosähkövasteita. Voit osallistua, jos olet
-18-35 vuotias
- oikeakätinen
–varustettu normaalilla (tai laseilla korjatulla) näkökyvyllä ja normaalilla kuulolla
- et kärsi migreenistä, neurologisista tai psykiatrisista sairauksista.

EEG-mittauksessa käytetään elektrodi-geeliä, jota laitetaan elektrodien ja päänahan väliin. Varaudu siihen, että saat pestä hiuksesi kokeen jälkeen. Laboratoriotiloistamme löytyy shampoota ja hiustenkuivaaja. Puhdistautumiseen kuluva aika on sisällytetty aikaan, joka osallistumiseen kuluu. EEG-mittaus ei onnistu, mikäli hiuksesi ovat rasvaiset, niissä on lakkaa tms., joten saavu tutkimukseen puhtaan tukan kanssa.

Suorituspaikka: Publicum (Assistentinkatu 11), kellarikerros. Saavu Publicumin aulaan ja kävele portaat alas kellarin ovelle. Tutkija tulee hakemaan sinut ovelta.
