What you’ll do:
In this study, you’ll see a series of short videos depicting hand movements and you’ll be asked to make judgements about the location and identity of an object. You might also be asked to make other kinds of judgements, such as what the person thinks or what exactly the videos depict. While evaluating these clips, you’ll be connected to an EEG device to measure your neural activity. Note that EEG requires electrolyte gel be applied on the scalp in order to establish a high-quality connection with each individual electrode. Private shower facilities are available on-site to wash this gel out of your hair once the experiment is complete.

Why it’s important:
This study aims to examine different factors of social cognition and biological motion. By investigating how these factors interact, we can better understand how humans make social judgements and interpret ambiguous gestures through mirroring and mentalizing.

Who is eligible:
Participants should be working-age adults with normal or corrected-to-normal vision with no history of major psychiatric or neurological disorders.

Compensation:
40€ (2 hours @ 20€/hr) OR 2 hours research credit

Location:
The waiting area for the lab is located at the bottom of the stairs in the Publicum main lobby at the University of Turku. A member of the NeuroKnow team will meet you there.

Point of Contact:
Sarah Kline (sarkli@utu.fi)

Funding:
This research is funded by the Academy of Finland as part of the NeuroKnow research project, an interdisciplinary effort to understand the relationship between how we think about knowledge and what knowledge actually is.

Other Instructions for Participants:
EEG works best when you have a clean scalp, so we request that you thoroughly wash your hair as close to your appointment time as possible (no more than 12 hours before).

If you need to cancel a scheduled time, please contact Sarah.
